SEASON REVIEW
Matt Mosher finished his high school career averaging 75 yards per catch.
Some kind of world record, huh?
Probably not.
But it was some kind of wonderful for the New Trier senior.
Mosher’s lone reception certainly was a huge one. A memorable one.
It came in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, when New Trier tried to pull off a massive come-from-behind win over host Loyola Academy in the opening round of the Class 8A state playoffs (LA won the game 35-32).
Mosher gathered in a pass from Carson Ochsenhirt and turned it into a 75-yard touchdown with 10:12 left in the fourth quarter.
As a wide receiver, that was Mosher’s first — and only — catch of his high school career. In fact, it was the only time that he was ever targeted.
Mosher instead made an impact on the other side of the ball. He proved to be a big-time performer in the defensive backfield. Big enough to earn honorable mention all-state honors by the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association (IHSFCA).
Mosher, who intercepted three passes and 67 tackles, was one of the true bright spots on this 6-4 New Trier team.
