Lake Forest rallies to beat Libertyville

Storming to the finish line.

Lake Forest, which trailed 15-4 after first eight minutes, outscored visiting Libertyville 14-7 in the final frame to post a 35-33 victory on Dec. 14.

Halle Douglass had a big say in LF win. The sophomore guard finished with 15 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Grace Tirzmalis checked in with six points and three rebounds, while Finola Summerville had five points and eight rebounds.

The other stat leaders were Audrey Kaus (7 rebounds, 3 steals) and Ellie Pearson (4 points, 3 rebounds).

With the win, the Scouts improved to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in the NSC.

New Trier 64, Highland Park 39

—New Trier scored 14 or more points in each quarter and took down visiting Highland Park 54-39 on Dec. 12.

NT was led by Maggie Murdock (13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals), Ava Zaslavsky (10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists), Rebecca Goldman (9 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals), Cate Murdock (8 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists), Jacqueline Vinson (6 points, 9 rebounds), Nicole Kaspi (5 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists) and Tinah Hong (4 points, 4 rebounds).

Sydney Ignoffo tallied 19 points for Highland Park. Addie Budnik had 10 points and nine rebounds, while Kirby Bartlestein had five ponts, four rebounds and two assists.

Loyola Academy 52, Argo 42

— Highlighted by Lilly Wehman (14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks), Celia Satter (13 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists), Addison Eberling (13 points, 8 rebounds) and Julia Martinez (5 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists), Loyola Academy improved to 9-1 with a 52-42 win at Argo High School on Dec. 12.

Nazareth Academy 59, Lake Forest 33

— Nazareth jumped out to a 21-7 first-quarter lead and cruised past visiting Lake Forest 59-33 on Dec. 12.

Ellie Pearson led the Scouts (6-5) with 11 points and nine rebounds.

The other stat leaders were Halle Douglass (6 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists), Grace Tirzmalis (5 points, 3 rebounds) and Annie Aberle (5 points).

New Trier 49, Hersey 37

— New Trier built a 32-14 advantage after two quarters and went to beat visiting Hersey 49-37 on Dec. 9.

The Trevians (9-1) were led by Cate Murdock (18 points, 4 assists, 4 steals), Maggie Murdock (12 points, 2 assists, 2 steals) and Rebecca Goldman (7 points, 4 rebounds). Jacqueline Vinson had five boards, while Taite Ryan came up with three points, four rebounds and three assists.

New Trier 63, Niles West 40

— Maggie Murdock tallied 14 points as New Trier posted a 63-40 win over visiting Niles West on Dec. 8.

The team’s other scoring leaders were Ava Zaslavsky (9), Tinah Hong (8), Rebecca Goldman (8), Nicole Kaspi (8), Gabby Malnati (6) and Taite Ryan (5).

Ryan led the team in rebounds (6), while Cate Murdock helped the NT cause with five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

The Trevians are now 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the CSL South.

Glenbrook South 57, Niles North 28

— Liz LaPierre came up with 13 points and seven rebounds to lead Glenbrook South to 57-28 victory over visiting Niles North on Dec. 8.

The Titans (7-2, 2-1) also received solid work from Lizzy Shaw (10 points, 2 steals), Makayla Shaw (8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals), Libbie Vanderveen (5 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists) and Kristin Ralston (8 rebounds).

Loyola Academy 50, Trinity 42

— Loyola Academy extended its win streak to seven games with a 50-42 victory over visiting Trinity on Dec. 5.

It was the first loss of the season for Trinity (7-1).

The 8-1 Ramblers were led by Lilly Wehman (15 points) and Erin Dillon (13 points). Dillon had four three-pointers.

New Trier 55, Maine South 52 (OT)

— New Trier earned a 55-52 overtime win at Maine South on Dec. 5.

With the win, the Trevians improved to 7-1 overall and 1-1 in the CSL South.

Loyola 51, Joliet Catholic 29

— This team is on a roll.

Loyola improved to 7-1 on the season with convincing 51-29 victory over Joliet Catholic in an ESCC/GCAC showdown on Dec. 3.

Julia Martinez paced the Ramblers with 15 points.

Loyola 62, Kenwood Academy 48

— Led by Julia Martinez (14 points), Loyola topped Kenwood 62-48 in the Fremd Invitational on Dec. 2.

Loyola 58, Carmel Catholic 33

— Celia Satter came up with another strong game.

The 6-foot junior forward tallied 18 points in Loyola Academy’s 58-33 victory over Carmel Catholic on Nov. 27.

Junior guard Julia Martinez also finished in double digits (10 points).

The win improved LA’s overall mark to 5-1.

Satter also was an offensive marvel in the recent New Trier Thanksgiving Tournament.

She poured in 32 points in the team’s 72-68 victory over Harlan on Nov. 21, while Satter had 28 points in a 68-29 triumph over Hyde Park on Nov. 13.

Martinez, as expected, also is off to a strong start. A three-year starter, the guard came up with 10 points in her team’s 73-22 win over Phillips on Nov. 26. She had seven points and 15 assists against Harlan, while she also tallied 10 points in the wins over Phillips and Carmel.

LA finished 4-1 in the tourney. In addition to the victories over Hyde Park, Harlan and Phillips, the Ramblers topped Bogan 58-53 on Nov. 24. Their lone setback was to New Trier 65-59 on Nov. 16.
