With three foursomes leading the way, Glenbrook North came out No. 1.
The Spartans tallied 386 points to claim top honors in the Central Suburban League North swimming and diving meet at Maine West on Feb. 10.
It was a battle.
Deerfield took runner-up honors with 341 points. Highland Park was a strong third: 326 points.
It was a perfect afternoon for GBN’s Jake Shapiro. He went home with four first-place medals. In addition to winning the 200 freestyle (1:47.16) and 100 free (49.66), he anchored the 200 free relay (1:32.46) and 400 free relay (3:22.03).
Ryan Purdy, Zander Johnson and Daniel Kaufman were the team’s other individual champs. Purdy took first in the 500 free (4:54.13), while he claimed runner-up honors in the 100 back (55.51).
Johnson sped to first-place finish in the 100 fly (55.89).
And Kaufman placed first in the 100 breast (1:02.62), while he was fourth in the 50 free (23.51).
GBN’s 200 medley relay (1:40.59) featured Purdy, Johnson, Kaufman and Anthony Mrozowski.
Kaufman, Mrozowski and Fabian JuJescu teamed with Shapiro in the 200 free relay (1:32.46).
And in the 400 free relay (3:22.03) Purdy and Shapiro joined forces with JuJescu and Anton Ivanchenko.
GBN also received solid efforts from Sam Shin in the 100 breast (3rd), Sebastian Klein in the 500 free (3rd) and JuJsecu in the 200 free (3rd), 100 fly (4th) and 100 free (4th).
In diving, GBN’s Ryan Cohn finished second (421.30) to Deerfield’s Zayne Danielewicz (433.10).
