Sam Iida of the Glenview Titan Aquatic Club turned in a standout performance at the 2016 Speedo Junior National Championships.

The same can be said of New Trier Swim Club’s Charlie Scheinfeld, Patrick Gridley, Ryan Gridley and Jack Walter.

In the meet held at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis on August 8-12, Iida earned runner-up honors in the 200 IM (2:03.34) and placed third in the 400 IM (4:23.32).

Michael Andrew of the Race Pace Club (Lawrence, Kansas) won the 200 IM in 2:01.70. Eric Knowles of the Dayton Raiders took first in the 400 IM (4:23.05).

Iida, who will be a senior at Glenbrook South, scored all 33 points for GTAC which finished 32nd in the team standings.

Meanwhile, the New Trier Swim Club wound up 17th in the team leaderboard with 66 points. Thirty-four of those points came in the 4×100 medley relay with Scheinfeld, Walter and the two Gridleys. They teamed up to take runner-up honors (3:49.57) behind King Aquatic Club of the Pacific Northwest (3:47.55).

Scheinfeld also qualified to the A Final in the 100 breaststroke. The 16-year-old placed seventh in 1:04.25. He added a 12th-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.71).

The 100 backstroke was another good event for the NT Swim Club. Patrick Gridley ended up ninth in 57.47. Ryan Gridley was 11th (57.61).

In the women’s competition, NT Swim Club’s Ingrid Wall placed 24th in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.44). Teammate Margaret Guanci was 26th in the 200 back (2:18.81).

Futures Championships: Reilly Lanigan, a 2016 graduate of Lake Forest High School, and Levy Nathan, who will be a senior at Highland Park High School, starred on the national stage earlier this month.

Lanigan, who swims for NASA Wildcat Aquatics, was a first-place finisher in the 200 freestyle (2:02.60) at the USA Swimming Future Championships in Austin, Texas on Aug. 4-7.

The Notre Dame recruit added a third in the 400-meter IM (4:58.29), a seventh in the 200 IM (2:21.61) and a ninth in the 100 free (58.13).

Nathan, who suits up for the Lake Forest Swim Club, earned runner-up honors in the 800 free (8:28.11). He also finished third in the 400 free (4:00.69), sixth in the 1500 free (16:19.52) and sixth in the 200 free (1:53.96).

LF Swim Club’s Hande Kivanc, who will be a senior at LFHS, placed 13th in the 200 back (2:22.39), while Loyola Academy graduate Chris Kearney (COHO Swim Club) registered a 16th-place finish in the 100 free (53.52).

New Trier Swim Club had numerous entries. Kasey Venn had a top-10 finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.20). Mia Haggerty placed in two events: 14th in the 400 free (4:29.77) and 16th in the 200 free (2:07.43). And Sydney Colburn took 14th in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.38).

In men’s relay competition, NT Swim Club placed in three events: 10th in the 800 free (7:59.03); 14th in the 400 medley (4:03.98) and 15th in the 400 free (3:39.68). In the women’s relay races, NT Swim Club took 13th in the 800 free (8:51.1) and 400 medley (4:29.45).
